Eye Health and Disease
Looking after more than just your vision
Good vision doesn’t always mean healthy eyes. Many eye conditions can develop gradually and may have few or no noticeable symptoms in their early stages.
At Eyes of Bright, we look beyond how clearly you can see. Our comprehensive eye examinations include a thorough assessment of your eye health, helping us detect, manage and monitor eye conditions as early as possible.
Using modern diagnostic technology, our optometrists can examine the structures of the eye in detail and identify changes that may require monitoring, treatment or referral.
Eye conditions we assess and monitor
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that can cause progressive damage to the optic nerve and, if left untreated, permanent vision loss. Because early glaucoma often has no obvious symptoms, regular eye examinations are particularly important for early detection.
Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration affects the macula, the central part of the retina responsible for detailed vision. Regular monitoring can help identify early changes and allow appropriate management or referral when required.
Cataracts
Cataracts occur when the natural lens inside the eye becomes cloudy. They commonly develop with age and can cause blurred vision, increased glare, difficulty driving at night and changes in colour perception. We can assess and monitor cataracts and discuss referral for surgery when the time is right.
Diabetic Eye Disease
Diabetes can affect the small blood vessels within the retina and may cause changes before you notice any difference in your vision. Regular diabetic eye examinations are an important part of managing your overall health and protecting your sight.
Dry Eye
Dry, gritty, watery, burning or tired eyes can all be signs of dry eye disease. There are many possible causes, so identifying what is contributing to your symptoms is an important first step towards effective management.
When should you have your eyes checked?
You don’t need to wait until your vision changes to have an eye examination.
Regular eye health checks are particularly important if you:
- Have a family history of glaucoma or other eye disease
- Have diabetes or other health conditions that may affect the eyes
- Are experiencing changes to your vision
- Notice flashes, floaters or distortion
- Have persistent red, uncomfortable or irritated eyes
- Are experiencing increased glare or difficulty seeing at night
- Have been advised to regularly monitor an existing eye condition
- Simply haven’t had your eyes examined for a while
Your local eye health care
If we identify something that requires further investigation or treatment, we’ll explain our findings clearly and discuss the next steps with you. Where necessary, we can arrange referral and work alongside your GP, ophthalmologist or other healthcare professionals to ensure you receive the appropriate care.
Protecting your sight starts with understanding the health of your eyes.
